Hogs in the Red at Midday

Lean Hog futures are down 20 cents to $1.775 at midday. The CME Lean Hog Index was down 40 cents from the previous day @ $72.82 on July 3. The Fresh Bacon Index was down $1.34 from the week prior at $132.68/cwt. The USDA pork carcass cutout value was down 22 cents @ $72.95 on Monday morning. The Belly primal was up $6.97, with the butt the only other primal reported higher. The national average base hog price was up 19 cents on Monday morning at $65.95. Last week’s estimated FI hog slaughter was 2.072 million head. That was up 87,000 head from same week last year.

AUG 19 Hogs are at $76.850, down $0.200

OCT 19 Hogs are at $69.450, down $0.625
